Youth are the future of society, and the healthy growth and holistic development of youths have always been our focus. The ‘Spree Social Youth Sports Development Programme’, jointly organised by the Foundation and social enterprise Vivere Sky Group, was designed for primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong. The programme aimed to cultivate a passion for sports through professional training, establish regular exercise habits, and enhance physical and mental health, as well as instill positive values such as teamwork.
The programme covered three main sports: dragon boat racing, handball, and pickleball. Guided by an experienced coaching team, the dragon boat racing and handball trainings commenced in July and lasted for six months. These activities offered 20 spots for secondary students along with 40 hours of professional training to systematically improve their athletic skills. Participants also had the opportunity to compete in local tournaments and to travel to mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area for cultural and sports exchanges, thus broadening their horizons.
For pickleball, the programme provided a two-hour sports experience for 100 underprivileged students across five primary and secondary schools, along with beautifully designed paddles that integrated art and sports. This aimed to spark the students' interest in this emerging sport.
